Chlorophyll is back!
Chlorophyll is a collaboration with Cat Hall, formerly of Dissonance, and nebulae. I met Cat after much searching for good singing talent in Dallas.  Upon meeting, our chemistry and natural abilities were an instant hit.  Cat writes the lyrics and vocal melodies while I piece together a basic song framework. Then, I produce the songs after the vocals are laid in.  Needless to say, Cat is the best singer I've ever worked with. Although Chlorophyll took a break from 2006-2007 due to personal obligations, we have resumed recording and producing, and we hope to finish our album in early 2009. Chlorophyll is curently signed with Dave Pelman, under license with Lionsgate, so you may hear Chlorophyll songs in commercials and/or movies. If you do, send us a note because we'd love to know!

Chlorophyll songs are available for a suggested donation of $1.00 per song. Click the PayPal button below.

april 8 The song was written on April 8, 2005, so we got "real creative" with the title (in other words, we were pretty lazy).  You can hear lots of our signature sounds...tons of stacking vocals, very melodic synth lines, heavy breakbeats, and a polished sound. A fun game to play is to count the number of vocal parts Cat is singing in our songs.
bitter A song originally written in 1998 by Cat and Paul Robb of Information Society.  Once we decided to work on the song, it was of course heavily nebulized...lots of guitars, a phat bassline sitting on top of filtered synth saw sounds off the JP8080, and a very bright supersaw lead in the chorus. Note the backwards guitar sounds, and the granular processing of the vocals.  Also, the drums are a loop from the Brutal Beats collection - fantastic for Led Zeppelin-ish drums, and really lending a great organic feel to this mean-bitch of a song.
those who wait Our first collaboration, and sign of great things.  This seven-minute masterpiece was inspired by a piece called "Inches" off the soundtrack to "Any Given Sunday".  Cat wrote the lyrics and put down 12 parts of vocal melodies in about two hours (damn the woman is talented!).  I then added strings and guitars, and programmed the drumbeats.  The song is typical of our style with tons of vocals and melodies, as well as mixing genres, electronic sounds, and acoustic instruments.  One of my proudest accomplishments.
the key This song took several versions to get right - we couldn't decide on the best feel for it.  For alternative versions, check the Unreleased and Demo section.  We finally decided on a straight genre blend of trancy supersaw sounds with slower house/electro beats.  For drama, we went for a juxtaposition of glassy vocals in the verses and warm vocals in the chorus.  Also, we used Livecut, a wonderful realtime slicer plugin, to process the vocals in the intro.  An excellent song to bob your head to, but watch out for neck spasms.
step off Another song originally by Cat and Paul Robb, nebulized for Chlorophyll.  I used some loops from Soundwrecks by The covert Operators, a couple of guys from Denmark who are at the top of their game.  The sample set is just genius work, and I can't thank Andreas and Bjorn enough for the hours of inspiration.  As you can hear, I chopped the crap outta the drum loop with Livecut.  I also used a guitar riff that came with Live 4's sample CD (no I'm not ashamed of using cheesy samples and loops, it's what you do with them that makes your art yours!). Live's transposition capabilities are fantastic, and the riff worked perfectly.  Add in a few nice blips and pads from the Virus C, and of course a bit of vocoder on Cat's great voice, and this ends up as a mellow downtempo song.  One of our simplest songs, yet still sophisticated enough to be signature Chlorophyll.
lullaby Originally an electro song written for the nebulae : wallpaper project, this song begged for vocals. Cat came to the rescue with her five-part harmonies that no one else can do, and I added a bunch of warm guitars from my new Ibanez semi-hollow body AS73 guitar. Add to the mix the strangely unresolved yet gratifying 7/4 time signature, and you've got another epic Chlorophyll track.
lullaby (dedbird remix) Good friend Dedbird produced a fantastic remix of lullaby where he stretched Cat's vocals and then use Sampler to creatively rearrange the chord structure. The drums are punchy and precise. An excellent remix!
