| Production Notes: |
| The Key (Demo 2) |
This version of the orignal (found on the Chlorophyll page) got closer, but still didn't have the emotional payoff we wanted. The vocals were very cold, which we liked, but the music wasn't complete. |
| The Key (Demo 1) |
This version had nice cold vocals, and an evil bleepy chord structure, but didn't really go anywhere. Lots of promise, but needed work. |
| Those Who Wait (Acapella) |
Cat wanted a mix of just her vocals (all 12 parts together), so she could impress people. As if she even needed this mix to do that :) |
| Telegram |
An instrumental that started from a The Wicked Won in Denver where we were teaching electronic music production. A really smooth prog house piece with lots of melody - if you don't already know by now, I'm all about da melody! |
| Snow World |
No, I can't play piano; this song was entirely midi sequenced, including the dramatic slow-downs. |
| Orca |
A great breakbeat piece with a fabulously groovy sine-wave bassline. Deep and funky. |
| Maya |
A great head-bobbin' (almost cheezy) trance anthem with a cool indian vocal hook. Used by Kundalini Shock Attack for a derivative song. |
| Magnum |
Another great head-bobbin' trance anthem with a cool breakdown and a slammin' hook. |
| Little Old Man Of the Pond |
A traditional Gaelic children's hymn, sung by Tracey Buchannan in Colorado. Baby samples are my son, Simon, when he was around one and a half years old. I had to tickle him a lot to get him to laugh just right. For those of you without kids, let me just say that this is the really fun part. |
| Cutting the Bracken |
Another traditional Gaelic folk hymn by Tracey Buchanan. For some fantastic vocals, check out "Dirty Dog" on the album nebulae - formulae. |
| Saharae (Live) |
Vocals by Kaila Brasell from Triprocket, the best band in Dallas (next to nebulae of course). If you get a chance to see these guys live, don't miss out! This is one of my favorite songs, and I've done four versions over the years, but I've never played it live, so I created a live audience track to simulate a live performance. I know, I know, I'm shameless. |
| Breathe |
A 2000 remake of a song originally done on nebulae : Globulae. This time, vocals were by Kaila Brasell. This was also an experiment trying out Logic Audio on PC; I never used Logic again, not because it was bad, but it just didn't suit me. |
| Saharae (Alternative Mix) |
Vocals by Christine Ladner, who sings in her church choir. Not that I was looking to expand into the realm of Christian rock, but I thought it would be interesting to see how my music would fit a "Church" voice. |
| Holiness (Worship Mix) |
More Christine Ladner...I know, it's total Christian Rock; but then... |
| Holiness (Pagan Mix) |
...Christian Rock remixed and nebulized! I can guarantee that this is one of the few sites where you'll hear a disco/house Christian Rock song. Pagan indeed! |
| Pieces |
Vocals by Franny, who I met in Eugene, Oregon, while in law school at the University of Oregonl. Incredible voice that we used a lot for nebulae - world wide eclecticae. Fran went off to New York and is now in a Jazz band. |
| Pendulum |
Heavily influenced by Orbital, which I was listening to a lot of back in the mid-90s. Long transitions, heavy beat, lush orchestral sounds. |
| Needle (Instrumental) |
Cool breaks; experimenting with oversaturating a digital delay effect to create a crispy distortion; in later years, it was often thought to be a production mistake, so now when I distort, I make sure people know it's on purpose! The vocal version by Franny made it on to nebulae - formulae. |
| Dallas |
The first song I did after relocating to Dallas, Texas. Interesting rhythms, especially in the middle breakdown. Otherwise, a really pretty mellow electronic song. |
| Shores |
One of the last songs I made in Eugene, Oregon, later remade for nebulae - formulae. |
